The centre welcomed the North Shore’s first TOPSHOP TOPMAN, located just inside its striking new entrance on Victoria Avenue, plus 14 street-food style operators in the vibrant Hawker Lane.
Inspired by street food markets of South-East Asia, Hawker Lane will trade until 10pm and offers after-hours dining with a difference. Diners will be able to revel in the theatre of open kitchens while enjoying signature dishes from Shanghai dumplings to ramen burgers. Restaurants include Chachus, Jim’s Malaysia, Dumplings & Co, Lamb & Cumin, China Chilli, Mao Cai, Madame Nhu and more.
Charlotte Lane has been transformed into a pedestrian precinct, with artwork specially created for Westfield Chatswood by Sydney-based aMBUSH Gallery. The large-format street art features murals and sculptures from recognised Australian artists such as Anthony Lister, Beastman and Nanami Cowdroy.
At night the Victoria Avenue façade comes to life with a mesh of 1,800 light globes programmed in sequence to provide ambient animations linked to the seasons of the year.
Scentre Group Chief Executive Officer Peter Allen said: “We’re pleased to welcome shoppers to a redesigned Westfield Chatswood. We’ve created two very distinct new precincts, customised to the Chatswood shopper’s taste. The fashion mall is a spacious and elegant interior flooded with natural light, providing a context where retailers and their products can genuinely excite the shopper. In contrast, our new dining precinct mimics the traditional style and vibrancy of an Asian street market, complete with the theatre of open kitchens.”
The second phase of redevelopment for Westfield Chatswood will focus on an upgraded fashion precinct planned to open in early 2016 and will include H&M, Uniqlo, Rebel, and local fashion and beauty retailers.
Situated in the heart of Chatswood’s CBD, the centre serves a growing trade area with a population of 445,000 people – one of the largest shopper bases amongst the Westfield shopping centre portfolio.
Westfield Chatswood is currently home to more than 280 Australian and international retailers including Myer, Target, Rebel, Hoyts, Zara, JB Hi-Fi, Coles and Aldi.
